Every pickleball court in the world is the same size, and it happens to be a size the UK is already full of. Here are the numbers, in the units UK halls actually use.

The same court is used for singles and doubles. No tramlines, no adjustments.
Why UK halls love pickleball
A doubles badminton court is the identical 6.1m × 13.4m footprint. That’s the whole story of pickleball’s UK growth: thousands of sports halls can host it with nothing more than a roll of court tape and a portable net. Around 1,000 UK venues offered pickleball by early 2026, and the overwhelming majority are exactly this conversion.
Two things to know about converted courts:
- The lines won’t match. Badminton’s short service line sits at 1.98m from the net; the kitchen line sits at 2.13m. Venues either tape dedicated pickleball lines (usually in a contrasting colour) or use temporary markers. On our venue pages the “Lines” field tells you whether they’re permanent, taped or projected.
- The net is different. Badminton nets hang at 1.55m, far too high. Clubs bring portable pickleball nets, which set up in a few minutes. If your venue provides them, the “Nets” field says so.
Marking your own court
On any flat surface, you need four measurements:
- Mark a 6.10m × 13.41m rectangle.
- Add the kitchen lines 2.13m from the net line on both sides.
- Split each service area down the middle with a centre line to create two 3.05m-wide service boxes.
- Set the net to 91.4cm at the posts and 86.4cm at the centre.
Use proper court tape indoors (gaffer tape lifts wooden-floor lacquer and makes leisure-centre managers sad). Outdoors, chalk or temporary paint works until you’re sure of the layout.
Tennis court conversions
A tennis court’s 23.77m length swallows pickleball whole: paint or tape lines across it and one court becomes up to four pickleball courts with room to spare. This is how many UK clubs and parks are adding outdoor pickleball cheaply. A tennis net lowered at the centre is a workable stopgap, but it’s still about 15cm too high at the key points; portable nets make the game noticeably better.
